The Permanent Diaconate is a resource built for the universal Church — to inform, inspire, and invite men to consider this ancient and renewed vocation of service.
This website was created to help more people discover, understand, and appreciate the beautiful vocation of the permanent diaconate.
This website was created by a Catholic deacon who has experienced firsthand the grace and meaning of this vocation. One of the great gifts of the Second Vatican Council was the restoration of the permanent diaconate — yet it remains one of the least understood ministries in the Church. Many Catholic men have never considered this calling, and many parishes may not fully appreciate the distinctive role their deacons play. Some men who feel a quiet stirring in their hearts never take the first step simply because they don’t know where to begin.
This site hopes to help with that. It gathers the biblical, historical, and theological foundations of the diaconate into a single, accessible resource. It offers honest reflections on what the diaconate is — and what it is not. It gently addresses the real questions, hopes, and concerns that men and their wives often carry as they discern. And through it all, it points back to the source of every vocation: the servant ministry of Jesus Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.
Everything on this site is grounded in the teaching of the Catholic Church, with Scripture references drawn from the Revised Standard Version, Catholic Edition (RSV-CE). The site is not affiliated with any particular diocese, but is offered as a resource for the universal Church.
If you have found this resource helpful, please consider sharing it with someone who might benefit. And if you are a man who senses God may be calling you to something more — know that you are not alone. The Church needs faithful servants. The world needs your witness. Take your time, pray, and trust that God will make the path clear.
